Born in Chicago, early life was affected by the Great Depression. Despite no recollection of showing art talent in those early years, Diane grew up with a well-rounded appreciation for both art and dance due to classes encouraged by her parents. She loves being a bit of a ‘dancing-queen’ to this day! Music lessons from pre-school through early teens included concerts with her piano teacher at the Civic Opera House.
During middle school there were sketch classes at the Art Institute of Chicago, the same university now recognized as one of the top 10 art schools in America. During high school she enjoyed art classes, especially in design. After graduation from high school came marriage, three sons, and a steel construction and crane rental business that demanded all her time. Art was off the table for quite a while.
Life as a snowbird began in 2001 with more and more time spent in Florida. Still loving the hustle of the business life, she is involved in running her condo association, working in administration with the Southwest Florida Chronicle, a literary newspaper, and is active with leadership of the Fort Myers Republican Women’s Club.
Life comes full circle in retirement with time to enjoy favorite pastimes once again. Diane rediscovered art with DASF. While not an art teacher, Diane rediscovered the joy of painting, people connections, and the business aspects of working in leadership roles as a member of the Dedicated Artists. With wonderful teachers to help members grow their skills, DASF also offers great opportunities for leadership in a public charity.
