Featured Artist – Carol BLANKENSHIP

Carol BLANKENSHIPRaised in a small town of Bloomfield, Indiana, Carol’s childhood was the best of two worlds! Her family, including her older brother, lived on “Main Street” but she loved going to “the farm” with her dad and riding her palomino horse. Mom, a gifted pianist and church organist for 40 years, was also a talented oil painter.  While admiring mom’s talents, Carol chose another route in life graduating from Indiana University with a degree in Business and started married life with Wayne. They have been together for half a century and counting.
After a few years in Austin, TX, Carol and Wayne returned to Southern Indiana where she joined Cummins Engine Company and retired as the Materials Director at the MidRange Engine Plant that builds the Dodge Ram Pickup diesel engine.
After retirement in 2007 and the move to Fort Myers, the art gene popped up with Carol announcing, “I want to paint!”, and barging into Joyce Kostelak’s art class at church. That began Carol painting and Suzanne Mikulka fanned the art flame, too. But retirement and painting were interrupted when Cummins called Carol back with a 2 year “return to work” in the UK and Charleston, SC.
Full retirement gave Carol time to volunteer. Carol’s superpower is her management skills. She has helped her Home Owner Association as president since 2008 and now DASF has benefited where she has been president since 2017. With painting skills blossoming, especially her architectural paintings of buildings and homes, Carol can now be found teaching monthly programs for DASF and Senior Art Classes at First Christian Church. Tropical Florida birds and flowers are found in Carol’s portfolio, too. Look for more art projects to come in the upcoming DASF Fall Catalog of Paint Projects.
